Summary: The collection includes photographs documenting Benjamin Franklin High School academic activities, special programs, and ceremonies; East Harlem, Italian American, Puerto Rican and multi-ethnic community groups, events, festivals, and street scenes; individual and group portraits of Leonard Covello, Vito Marcantonio, and others. Most photos are set in East Harlem, New York City, but there are a few set in Italy, San Juan (Puerto Rico), and elsewhere. Additions to the collection consist of three New York City street scenes: two unidentified and one looking south on Park Avenue from 116th Street to 115th Street, as well as a 1979 Christmas card featuring a photo of Covello and signed by him.
