Summary: The collection consists of two volumes containing daily records for the Twelfth Precinct, including arrest records which note the ethnic background of the accused. Volumes are logs of all precinct activities, such as roll calls, sick leaves, and the arrival and departure of officers from the station. Arrests are noted for crimes such as intoxication, assault and battery, theft, military desertion, and disorderly conduct. Most of those arrested appear to have been Irish. The police also often had to round up stray animals, including cows, horses, and geese. The logs begin in August 1863 -- only a few weeks after the end of the Draft Riots -- and document a total of about seven months of police activity.
