Balch Institute collection of African-American rites and celebrations ephemera

This collection consists of programs from various initiations into adulthood, or “Unyago,” as well as one illustrated Kwanza card. The Unyago materials were likely gathered as background material for the Balch’s 1992 exhibition “Rites of Passage in America.”
