The narrative embraces also some data on national and local events such as the Mexican War, Civil War, and riots in Philadelphia between the Native American Party and the Catholic Irish. List of officials, 1878, contains the names of members of state administrations and heads of state government departments, compiled by Martin; mementoes of the Civil War, 1861-1865, cartoons, pictures, and epigrams ridiculing the leaders of the South.
