Of the Evans, there is correspondence, photographs, family history papers, and other documents from the family of Thomas B. Evans of Limerick Bridge, Montgomery County. Thomas was commissioned in the Pennsylvania Militia and 1839. He later worked as a justice of the peace and also dealt in real estate. His daughter, Emma, married Garrett E. Brownback in 1874. From the family of Emma and Garrett Brownback, is an assortment of letters, genealogies and related research material (such as vital records, marriage records, etc.), and various documents. Garrett Brownback ran a successful creamery in Linfield, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Brownback and Steele families become connected through the marriage of Emma and Garrett Brownback's daughter, Mary Elizabeth, and Doctor William Steele Jr. Descended from Ulster natives William Steele (1839-1908) and Ellen Ann Blair (1841-1837), William Jr., who graduated from the Hahneman Medical College in 1903, founded the William Steele Company of Philadelphia with his four brothers. This company became known for constructing concrete buildings, and it also worked on local landmarks, such as Shibe Park. Papers in the collection of the Steele family include correspondence, legal documents, and variety of images (include tintypes and other cased photographs), and other items.
