| 520 | |a Thomas McCall Cadwalader (1795-1873) was born to Lambert Cadwalader and Mary McCall in Trenton, New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton University, studied law, and had a successful career in the military. In 1831, he married Maria Gouverneur (1801-1867), and the couple had several children. This collection of documents is comprised of Cadwalader family deeds and papers collected by Thomas as executor of the Estate of James Hamilton, a South Carolina merchant who retired to Philadelphia in the 1820s. The extensive collection of deeds show the transfer of various properties to and from Thomas Cadwalader and other family members, including many extended family members, such as Thomas A. Biddle (1776-1857), whose grandaughter Christine married Thomas Cadwalader's son, Richard. The properties span lots in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and elsewhere. Thomas's papers concerning the Estate of James Hamilton include correspondence, financial items such as statements and receipts, and copies of legal documents. The collection also includes a few miscellaneous items, such as sewing samples (mounted) by Christine Biddle. | ||
