Summary: |
Thomas Chalkley Matlack was a Quaker artist and scholar interested in public education in Philadelphia. He lived in Moorestown, New Jersey. This donation is comprised for four notebooks of genealogical notes and a photograph album. Matlack recorded genealogical notes on his ancestors -- members of the Browning, Gardiner, Roberts, and Matlack families of New Jersey, among others. He took the information from various family bibles and other sources. The photograph album, as described by Matlack on its bookplate is "a booklet of portraits of some of his friends taken with a Brownie Kodak by T. Chalkley Matlack, Moorestown, N.J." All of the photos in the albums are identified and dated. |
