Summary: |
The Pomeroy family originated from either Ireland or Scotland, and had set roots in Pennsylvania by the early 1700s, with the bulk of the family eventually settling in Cumberland, Franklin, and Mifflin Counties.
This collection relates mostly to William R. Pomeroy (1811-ca. 1890), a merchant from Franklin County, and his children, including William R. Pomeroy Jr. (1861-1944) and Arabella E. Pomeroy (1846-1914), who married James F. Diehl in 1872. The bulk of the material dates from the early to late 1800s and includes financial records and receipts, hand-drawn maps, and printed materials. In addition to a small amount of personal correspondence, there are many letters that pertain to legal matters and bear the letterhead of J. Nevin Pomeroy of Academia, Pennsylvania. Additionally, there are several property deeds for lands in Cumberland, Frankling, and Juniata Counties. There are also scattered papers concerning Samuel Reynolds Diehl, a reverend and son of Arabella and James Diehl. |
