The regiment, including Company L, earned the nickname "Men of Iron" for its role during the German Army's Champagne-Marne Offensive in July 1918. There is a panoramic photo portrait of Company L that was taken in Bagneux, France, on 6 February 1919. Other items in the collection include a 1919 booklet on the history of the 109th, a group of yearbook-style pages identifying the men of the various companies of the 1st Pennsylvania Infantry, and a 1950-1951 pictorial history of the 28th Infantry Division.
