This academy, the Naval Asylum on Gray's Ferry Road, was the precuror to the United States Naval School in Anapolis. This collection consists of correspondence between McClure and another professor as well as letters from his students. There is also a reprint of an 1882 article in the Inquirer which chronicles McClure and the original naval school. There is also a list of midshipman who passed at the Naval Asylum in 1840 and their later promotions. Seemingly unrelated is a photograph and cover letter from 1959 regarding a plaque from the Chestnut Street Bridge.
