In 1763, the Associate Church of North America sent Rev. William Marshall to Philadelphia to establish an associate congregation, which was organized by 1768. A church was erected in 1771. The congregation divided in 1786 over the proposed union with the Reformed Presbyterians. Rev. Marshall's group favored remaining within the Church of Scotland. In 1790 the Court awarded the property to the "reformers" and Rev. Marshall then set up his own congregation.

v. 2: Marshall's "State of the Case of the Scots Presbyterian Church," ca. 1790. Also includes 2 printed leaflets of Acts of the Associate Synod," 1785 & 1788 and a printed letter from the Associated Reformed Synod, 1787. "State of the Case …" may be the preliminary to Marshall's "Vindication of the Associate Presbytery of Pennsylvania (Phila. 1791)." |
