Summary: Letterbook and army statistics kept by Joseph Shippen (1732-1810) during the French and Indian War. Born in Philadelphia in 1732, Joseph Shippen was the youngest son of Edward Shippen and Sara Plumley. Shippen graduated from Princeton in 1753 and entered the Provincial Service as a Captain in the regiment commanded by Colonel William Clapham. He also served under General Forbes in the expedition that captured Fort Duquesne on November 25, 1758.
