Summary: William Trent was a Philadelphia merchant, member of the Provincial Council and the Supreme Court in Pennsylvania. He is the man for whom Trenton is named. An 1897 newspaper article laid into the volume appears to be based on extensive research in the ledger itself, which at that time was stored in the safe at the Mercantile Library. The ledger, 1703-1709, includes business and personal expenses, as well as numerous references to shipping.  It includes a range of financial and trade interests, including wine, pelts, tobacco, and slaves. It also provides a list of many prominent men of the time with whom Trent did business. The ledger also includes an account documenting his purchase of and improvements to the Slate Roof House, where William Penn lived briefly.
Ledger has been unbound for preservation purposes.  These images are labeled with the page numbers as Trent only numbered the left-side pages, and not the right.  Page images are labeld 49, 49a, 50, 50a, etc., to maintain the original order.
