He eventually settled in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey, where he became part owner of the Egg Harbor Pilot newspaper in 1877 and full owner in 1890, and held several local government posts. Kroekel spent the last ten years of his life in Philadelphia. The collection consists mainly of his personal papers, along with some materials concerning the history of the Kroekel and Daetwyler families and of Egg Harbor City. Contents include notebooks, financial records, correspondence, minutes, reports, photographs, drawings, clippings, postcards, and other items.
