The mission of the society is unclear but it sought to seek member who were of "good moral character, temperate habits, and free from all bodily infirmities, under 45 years of age." The society dissolved in 1842. Later pages in the volume were used as a journal by Kimber and Dickinson, 1848-1849. Following that, pages were used as a daybook, 1874-1882, showing daily purchases of various groceries and dry goods.
