| 520 | |a This donation is comprised of a collection of volumes from and relating to the Lowrie family of Philadelphia. Among them is a 6-volume autobiographical series called "Herself" by Sarah Dickson Lowrie, as well as other books by her, such as "Her Book," and "The Book of the Street," a book abut Market Street that Lowrie authored for the Sesquicentennial. The "Herself" series is a full typescript in makeshift extra-illustrated form, with tipped-in additions of family papers and photographs. There are also some loose papers in the volumes. Other volumes in the collection include "Recollections" by Walter Lowrie, a copy of "A narrative of the captivity of Luke Swetland, in 1778 and 1779, among the Seneca Indians," a book on the history of Wyoming County in northeastern Pennsylvania. Sarah Dickson Lowrie (1870-1957) was an author and historian who lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She worked for the Philadelphia Public Ledger, and was one of the original members of the Women's Committee of 1926, created to assist in planning the 1926 Sesquicentennial Celebration. Her brother, Walter Lowrie (1868-1959), who also lived in Philadelphia, was an author and theologian. | ||
