Summary: The bulk of this collection is highly miscellaneous Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank papers that were apparently retained by Howard W. Lewis who was the bank's last president and liquidating agent. The Farmers' and Mechanics' Bank, Philadelphia, began operations in 1807 and was merged with Philadelphia National Bank in 1918. There are extracts of minutes evidently prepared for the bank's centennial, some correspondence, and some financial papers. Family papers include Howard W. Lewis letterpress books, 1897-1918, which concern philanthropic and social institutions with which he was associated, estates for which he was executor, and his own personal business affairs. Mabel Potter Lewis letters, memoranda, reports, flyers, memorabilia, 1917-1920, on the Woman's Land Army of America which she served as a board member. There are a few items of S. Weir Lewis, father of Howard Lewis: personal ledger, 1847-1888, and accounts for estates of James M. Barclay, Hannah Ellmaker, Nancy Read.
