The Hartford Convention (1814-1815) was a meeting of New England Federalists, who in Hartford met to discuss their opposition to the War of 1812 and general political grievances. Despite calls in the Federalist press for secession from the United States, moderates dominated the convention and other recommendations were made, such as altering guidelines for the admission of new states and determining representation in Congress. This volume contains public documents related to the Hartford Convention, including convention proceedings, letters from the Massachusetts members in Congress, and letters from the governors of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York.
