Summary: Image: 1/6 plate; Woman seated in front of a painted backdrop in wood-framed posing chair beside a cloth-covered posing table, wearing daycap set back on the head and strings tied to one side, and a dark gown, probably black, made with belled sleeves under closely fitted caps, with white undersleeves, and tight, dark leather gloves, with a ribbon hanging down from her neck (likely a watch strap). Preserver: Straight, narrow, embossed with simple pattern (after 1850). Mat: Oval with matte finish and simple embossed design (1850). Case: Leather-covered wood-frame with a very rare "Flower Vase" (Berg No. 5-144) design embossed on the front (the engraver's name A C Paquet appears reversed in the lower left corner - listed as a die sinker in Philadelphia 1850-55 and as a die sinker with the U.S. Bureau of Engraving & Printing in Philadelphia in 1858), and a geometric design on the back, with a red velvet pinchpad and red velvet cushion embossed with a geometric design.
