There are so many things wrong with this "personalized" portait of Dr. Ben Carson, surgeon and 2016 Republican presidential candidate. First, it is a slightly creepy sketch of Carson. Next is the full inscription: "Dear Neal, You are an inspiration to me, a true patriot, and a shining example of the best America has to offer. Thank you and God bless you. Ben." The Neal in question is a gay Jew living in Philadelphia with his partner of 17 years (the last two of those 17 years being legally married to each other). Not exactly the demographic that Dr. Carson normally appeals to (Evangelical Christians who shun same-sex marriage and basically everything else Neal and his good husband support--climate change, inclusiveness, health care for all, etc.). What mailing list did Carson America, Inc. purchase? And even the signature "Ben" (apparently Neal and Ben are on a first name basis) is not genuine. |
