Philadelphia images portray recruiting and enlistment, medical examinations, recruits leaving for camp at the B & O Station, military parades, prayer, calisthenics, and leisure time activities. Shows women taking their oaths at the Betsy Ross House, on South Broad Street, and at other sites. Depicts WACs living at the Walton Hotel, visiting the Philadelphia Zoo, going to the movies, and saying goodbye to loved ones. Includes views of WACs at Fort Dix, illustrating vehicle maintenance, the use of gas masks, eating in the mess hall, and recreating. Depicts the interior of a barracks in New Castle. Contains group portrait of Pennsylvanians in Georgia and North Africa. These subject entries for the Philadelphia Record newspaper's photo morgue are primarily for Places (buildings, parks, streets, etc.), Things (Bicycles, Bison, Blind Persons [just sampling the B's]), Events (Democratic National Convention 1936, Flourtown Fair, Harvest Week) and Social Constructs (Home Economics, City Planning, Eating & Drinking, etc.).
