Summary: The Boyd Theater was an art deco movie theater built in 1928 at 19th and Chestnut Streets, in Philadelphia, Pa. In July 1991 the Pa. Supreme Court held in this case that designation as a landmark amounted to unlawful "taking" of private property without just compensation. On Nov. 9, 1993 the same court reversed its earlier ruling. The theater had earlier become a Sam Eric. The Boyd remained open for movies until it closed in 2002. Saved by a citizens advocacy group, it will reopen in 2007.
