The debt he contracted in performing the service brought about a correspondence with Benjamin Franklin which is copied here together with a letter of Benjamin Franklin to John Jay (copy). Published in part by Elizabeth Mifflin in "The Pennsylvania Magazine" v. 23, pp. 77-85.
