In 1877-78, the Law Academy of Philadelphia held a competition to write an essay on the "Original Land Titles in Philadelphia." The winning essay was written by Lawrence Lewis, Jr., and is reprinted in these volumes. Volumes 1 and 2 are the original essay, extra illustrated with portrait reprints, maps, handwritten copies of original documents, original documents and newspaper clippings. The essay Volumes 3-5 are supplements, containing mostly newspaper clippings of the history of the development of certain areas in Philadelphia (as well as maps, handwritten copies of documents and original documents). Information regarding the settling of boundaries with bordering states is also included. |
