520 | |a This collection consists of two copies of "A Collection of Christian and Brotherly Advices," compiled by the Yearly Meeting of Friends for Pennsylvania and New Jersey from their records. The text of the two volumes is nearly the same. It is not clear when they were transcribed, but it may have been in approximately 1762. According to a resolution copied into the front of the volumes, the meeting ordered several copies of this volume to be transcribed and distributed among area congregations in 1762. The contents of the volume are arranged alphabetically. Topics include "Children and Youth," "Conduct and Conversation," "Government," "Indians," "Negroes or Slaves," "Plainess," "Schools," "Scriptures," "War," "Tale-bearing & Backbiting," and "The Ancient Testimony." Each section is then arranged chronologically and appears to contain extracts of minutes pertaining to the particular topic. Am .720 has a table of contents at the back. Am .720 contains loose papers dated 1776. These papers appear to summarize the events of the Yearly Meetings in several states and contain extractions from their minutes. They were copied by James Pemberton for the Yearly Meeting of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Also included in Am .720 is a letter from C. Cope to Frank Etting regarding the volume, which he had recently borrowed. The letter is dated 1858. | ||
