Summary: |
This volume includes an account of William Watson's voyage with his family from Nottingham, England, to Philadelphia, 1684, and to Burlington, West Jersey, where he settled; records of business transactions; medical recipes; and diary notes.
The volume also includes entries from William Watson while he was still living in Farnsfield, England.
The volume begins with one page of genealogical notes regarding a few 17th century members of the Watson family, recording the dates and places of birth and dates of death and places of burial. The volume ends with additional genealogical notes of later Watson and Furman family members, dating from 1772 to 1839.
The bulk of the volume consists of a daily record of work and business activities and some personal expenses, 1764-1799. It is unclear if these were the records of a William Watson. One entry is a receipt of payment made by a Jno. Watson. Entries consist of receipts, one of which was for payment to the Quaker Meeting in Trenton. Other entries appear to record commodities sold or work done. Commodities included hogs, hay, wheat, cheese, flax seed and calves. Other entries record the labor performed by others, such as bringing wool and yarn to Widow Fennimore [?] for spinning.
Separate from these entries is the one entry of 1684 recording a receipt of payment made by William Watson.
Several pages consist of medical recipes, many of which call for the ingredients of honey, lime, wax or turpentine. |
