The first volume contains the manuscripts of a loyalist family of Philadelphia: Samuel Shoemaker diaries, 1783-1785, written by him "For the entertainment of his wife" during his stay in London, Eng., as a loyalist refugee. There is also a typescript copy of these diaries, prepared in 1892. Two volumes contain handwritten copies of diaries and letters, 1780-1786, written by Rebecca Shoemaker and her daughters, Anna and Margaret Rawle. The index of names pertains to all three copied volumes.
Most of the papers of the Shoemaker women are contained in vol. 70 of the Pemberton Papers, collection 484A. A typescript copy of the diaries and letters is contained in Am .13745. |
