The collection includes a diary in two volumes: one titled "Memorandum book," 1860-1863, the other titled "Return book," 1863-1866. The second volume also contains a few newspaper clippings, including one from 1861. The diary gives an account of her participation in the Tenth Baptist Church, other personal activities, dying and death, and Civil War news. There is also a record book, 1859-1870, for Ladies Christian Union Association and Ladies Hospital Aid Association, both of which Merklee served as an officer, with membership, subscriptions, donations. The record book contains several loose sheets, circa 1865-1898. |
