Summary: Cynthia J. Little, Ph.D, has been involved with public history and civic life in Philadelphia since the early 1970s. In the late 1970s, she was a field organization in Chicago for the National Abortion Rights League (NARAL), and she was a founder of what became National Women’s History Month in 1980. In Philadelphia she has served on several boards, including Women’s Way, New Century Trust, Muse Foundation for Women in the Arts, Museum Council of Philadelphia and Delaware Valley, and the Pennsylvania Abolition Society. Her work life has included positions at the Philadelphia Area Cultural Consortium, Historical Society of Pennsylvania, and the Philadelphia History Museum. Moreover, she has consulted on numerous public history projects and served on multiple history advisory committees locally and national. This donation consists of papers and material that Little created and collected over the course of her work with a myriad of local and national cultural and women's organizations. Women's rights, history, and health care are prevalent topics throughout. The collection contains many of Little's writings and articles; mailings, flyers, brochures, and clippings; photographs, copies of emails; some business correspondence; and other printed matter. There are also research notes on women's history and local tours; minutes of the New Century Guild/Trust; papers concerning HSP and other local exhibits. Additions made to the collection touch upon women's right's and movements of the late 20th century and include items pertaining to the Mayor's Commission for Women, Commission on the Status of Women, Illinois Women's History Week, Women's History Institute, Sarah Lawrence College, New Century Trust, National Collaborative for Women's History Sites. There are also photographs, including a small album of images of and from the historical Society of Pennsylvania in the late 1990s, two of Little's calendars from 1975 and 1975, and a selection of radical feminist publications.
