Summary: This donation is comprised of late 17th century and early 18th century records the Frampton and Bickley families of Philadelphia and Burlington, New Jersey. In 1683/4, William Frampton, an early merchant settler in Philadelphia, was granted 500 acres of land in Philadelphia County “by ye Bristoll Friends up Tekony." At some point Frampton purchased a large amount of land in Kent County, Delaware, which was eventually overseen by his wife, Elizabeth. The origins of the Bickleys are unclear, but one Abraham Bickley had established a business and bought property along the Delaware River by the early 1700s. According to some documents, the Bickleys may have also established themselves in Burlington, New Jersey. Land deeds and surveys are most prominent in the collection, but there are also agreements, briefs of title, petitions, accounts, notes (and scraps of notes), inventories, small notebooks. Much of the material in the collection pertains to the Framptons' Kent County lands, with some mention of specific regions such as "Mulberry Point" and "Elizabeth's Lott." There are records on land in Philadelphia, and a few items refer to land in Chester and Northampton counties, as well.
