Summary: Philadelphia engineer Andrew Atkinson (A. A.) Humphreys (1810-1883), was a member of United States Army Corps of Topographical Engineers. He worked on multiple survey projects, including the U.S. coastal survey before being enlisted as a surveyor for the Union Army during the Civil War. In this donation are two letters from 1847, dated 25 and 26 December, with an original envelope, that Humphreys wrote to Mary “Moll” Yonge of Macon, Georgia. The letters originate from Washington, D. C., and generally discuss personal and family matters.
