Summary: This donation is comprised of groupings of documents and photographs that tell the story of the Randolph (Fitzrandolph or Fitz Randolph) family of Philadelphia, particularly through the line of Revolutionary War soldier Edward F. Randolph. The collection also documents, by extension, a number of related families, particularly that of noted Philadelphia lawyer and president of HSP, Hampton L. Carson. Among the materials in the collection are photographs, family letters, various genealogies, copies of 17th century deeds, copies of vital records and family trees, books, and marriage certificates. Notable items include an original letter dated 21 July 1778 of Edward F. Randolph, while in service during the Revolutionary War, to his fiancée, Anna Juliana Steel; a copper relief of Levi Hollingsworth; and a scrapbook made by the donor’s father of clippings pertaining to the American-Soviet space race of the 1960s.
