This donation consists of a 1901 issue of the city of Philadelphia's John Scott Medal that was given to Frank Alfred Humphrey of Massachusetts. Humphrey was a pattern maker and inventor, and the award was given to him in 1901 for his achievements in improving circular saw machines. The John Scott Award, named after druggist John Scott of Scotland, and which is still awarded by the city today, is given to men and women whose advances or inventions have helped improve society in some manner.
