World War I glass slides
W. Willis Gilmore was in the 28th Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and he retired as a colonel. He made this group of glass slides from negatives that were given to him by a sergeant in another Pennsylvania National Guard division. The original photographs were taken by a French soldier.
This collection consists of 91 glass slides that depict various views of primarily France and Belgium taken during World War I. There are images of landscapes, soldiers (including American soldiers), ruins, and military vehicles and armaments. Nearly all the slides are captioned in some manner. Also included is a copy of a presentation, on paper, that was given by Gilmore using the slides. |
