Summary: The materials in this collection originated from two related Philadelphia families, the Wise family through William J. Wise (born 1915) and the Paskus family through William's wife, Eleanor Paskus (born 1918), and her brother John Paskus (1921-1992). Both Wise and Paskus are heavily represented in the collection through World War II letters, clippings, and other memorabilia. During World War II, William served with the U. S. Navy and John served with the U. S. Army. William primarily corresponded with Eleanor and few other family members, and there are letters both to and from William. There are also a handful of pre-war letters between William and Eleanor. John primarily corresponded with Eleanor, as well as his mother Julia Bazis Paskus (later Nawrocki). In addition to letters, there are also clippings from local newspapers about the state of the war in 1945; Army training papers; miscellaneous Army publications and newsletters; and artifacts, including three rosaries, an Iron Cross pin, and three souvenir flags.
