Alfred Morena Sr. (1839-1929) was a music composer, music teacher, and member of the Philadelphia Orchestra during the early 20th century. He was born in Italy and died in Philadelphia, Alfred Sr.’s father, Giuseppe Morena, was also a musician and composer. He studied under Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi in the late 1800s and was the organizer and leader of a military band that toured Europe and the Americas. Giuseppe Morena was also friends with Giuseppe Garibaldi and his band was present at many of Garibaldi’s public events.
This collection of Alfred Moreno Sr.’s works, most dating from the early 1900s, was compiled and copyrighted by his grandson. There are four spiral bound books and eleven CDs (in nine cases) comprising full and excerpted performance of Morena’s works, including a Serenade for violin, Rose for piano, and other compositions.
