Summary: |
This donation consists of papers of the Stewart family, and primarily Charles Russell Stewart (b. 1882), of Philadelphia. Represented to a lesser degree, mostly through photographs and ephemera of Charles’s wife Sara Richardson Tatnall, is the Tatnall family. The bulk of the collection consists of correspondence between Charles and his sons, Charles Russell Jr., Ashton Tatnall, and James Francis. There are several rolled bundles of letters written from Ashton to his family while he was away at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. Additionally, among Charles’s own papers are several letters to his sons. Charles’s papers also include bills, receipts, insurance records, leases, deeds, wills, notes, church programs, photographs, a checkbook, and several artifacts. Most of the photographs are unlabeled and three of them are framed. Artifacts include keys, cufflinks, tie pins, a sewing kit, a wallet, and a few loose, unused stamps. |
