520 | |a Elio Gasperetti is a graphic artist and retired multiethnic curriculum specialist for the District of Columbia public school system. For over sixty years, he has collected and created images documenting a wide range of ethnic groups, and he has put together numerous displays and some slide presentations on ethnic history for schools, churches, federal agencies, and others. The captions and many of the illustrations in the displays are his own. This collection dates primarily to the mid to late 20thn century and contains captioned images from Mr. Gasperetti's ethnic history collection, including both his own drawings and pictures he collected and captioned. Most of the items are mounted on board and many of them are laminated. The majority of the items focus on notable individuals of an ethnic group with some that describe an ethnic group's history or aspects. Also included are several published works written or illustrated by Mr. Gasperetti, including curriculum guides and popular history booklets, mainly about African-American and African history as well as documenting different ethnic groups in the armed services. These published works are contained in boxes 10 and 11. The works include "Nation of Nations," "Hispanics in Americas," "Afro-American Studies: A Guide for Teachers," "African Heritage in the Catholic Church," and "Hispanic America's Indian Heritage." | ||
