The bulk of the collection consists of World War I posters from a variety of governmental and nongovernmental agencies. These include recruiting posters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, posters from the War Camp Community Service promoting Philadelphia social events for soldiers and sailors, advertisements for Liberty Bonds and War Savings Stamps, calls to conserve food from the US Food Administration, and a number of posters targeting women from the National League for Women's Service, the Women's Land Army, the Volunteer Factory Service, and other agencies.
The collection also includes a folder of miscellaneous posters documenting Philadelphia-area exhibitions, historical pageants and sites (including Gettysburg and Valley Forge), events at local colleges, and sports events, as well as Violet Oakley's League of Nations portraits and the Will Rogers Memorial Fund. Also includes Woodrow Wilson campaign posters. |
