Summary: |
Founded in 1932, the Pennsylvania Economy League was chartered in 1936 as a non-political, non-partisan organization of taxpayers working for "better government at less cost." The Philadelphia Committee of the League was organized in 1934. The League also had major offices in Harrisburg and Pittsburgh. The Eastern Division office continues to operate in Philadelphia at 1700 Market Street. The League defines itself today as an independent nonprofit public policy research and development organization. Supported by individual and corporate members in the region, the League's mission is to promote "better government for a more competitive Southeastern Pennsylvania."
This collection consists of the League's newsclipping files culled primarily from local newspapers such as the Record, Bulletin, and Inquirer. The articles cover numerous issues that impact the actions of a municipal government and the everyday lives of the citizens. Topics range from crime and crime prevention, municipal finance and gas to food, subways and playgrounds. |
