The Philadephia Branch of the Dickens Fellowship was established in 1907 by Charles Sessler, a rare books and prints dealer, as a social and literary club for men of high standing. The group met monthly (except for July and August) at various locales throughout the city to discuss Dickens's works, as well as partcipate in arranged meals and activities, such as field trips. The group's membership has since evolved to include women. The Fellowship promotes local charitable ventures and has been host to several North American conferences.
