A letter written by former U. S. Attorney General, Richard Rush (1780-1859) to current president James Monroe (1758-1831). Rush wrote the letter while in London on official business and relays information to James Monroe. He mentions Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh (1769-1822), Albert Gallatin (1761-1849), the beginning of the First Seminole War (1816-1819), the Arbuthnot and Ambrister incident, "Mr. Smith," most-likely Robert Smith (1757-1842), and John Quincy Adam's "March 12th letter" which discussed U.S.-Spain relations.
