description This folder contains former volume 6, pages 141 to 190 of the extra illustrated version of John Galt&#39;s&nbsp;<em>The Life, Studies and Works of Benjamin West</em>. It contains correspondences, prints, and an expenditure account from 1798 relating to Francesco Bartolozzi&#39;s engravings of West&#39;s paintings. The bulk of the material dates between 1800 and 1815, with two letters from the 1830s. Oversize pages are in box 3, folder 7. Not digitized are&nbsp;West&#39;s financial accounts and receipts dating between 1814 and 1819, which are also located in this folder.<br /> <br /> John Galt wrote two volumes covering the life of Benjamin West. The first was published in 1816 and contains biographical information from West&rsquo;s birth to his travels in Italy in the 1760s. The second volume contains West&rsquo;s move to London and his subsequent career as historical painter to King George III, and ends with West&rsquo;s death in 1820.&nbsp
