The materials begin with Luke Wistar Morris, descendant of Anthony Morris and Mary Jones, who immigrated to America 1681. The collection follows the Morris family through several generations: Luke Wistar Morris (1768-1820), a brewer; his son, Samuel B. Morris (1791-1859), a merchant; his grandson, Elliston Perot Morris (1831-1914); and his great-grandson, Marriott Canby Morris (1863-1948). A few women of the family are also represented in the collection, such as Ann Pancoast Morris (1764-1858), second wife of Luke W. Morris; Hannah Ann Morris Buckley (1812-1889), daughter of Luke W. Morris and Ann Pancoast Morris; and Beulah Sansom Morris Rhoads (1829-1923), daughter of Samuel B. Morris. The papers include correspondence, wills, legal and estate papers, deeds, real estate documents, and business records.

The materials begin with Luke Wistar Morris, descendant of Anthony Morris and Mary Jones, who immigrated to America 1681. The collection follows the Morris family through several generations: Luke Wistar Morris (1768-1820); his son, Samuel Buckley Morris (1791-1859); his grandson, Elliston Perot Morris (1831-1914); and his great-grandson, Marriott Canby Morris (1863-1948). A few women of the family are also represented in the collection, such as Ann Pancoast Morris (1764-1858), second wife of Luke W. Morris; Hannah Ann Morris Buckley (1812-1889), daughter of Luke W. Morris and Ann Pancoast Morris; and Beulah Sansom Morris Rhoads (1829-1923), daughter of Samuel B. Morris. The papers include correspondence, wills, legal and estate papers, deeds, real estate documents, and business records. Series 1, Luke Wistar Morris (1770-1881, undated) consists primarily of the business, real estate, and estate papers of Luke W. Morris. These include account books, ledgers, bills, receipts, correspondence, legal documents, deeds, and maps. Additionally, there are documents related to the guardianship of William Penrose’s children. Also present in the series are the papers of Luke W. Morris’ second wife, Ann Pancoast Morris. These include account books, bills, receipts, and legal and real estate documents. There is also a receipt book and will copy of Anthony Morris, Luke W. Morris’ father. Further there are weather records spanning 1799-1804, but the creator is unidentified. Series 2, Samuel Buckley Morris (1802-1912, undated) consists of the business, real estate, and estate papers of Samuel Buckley Morris, son of Luke W. Morris. These include records related to Samuel Morris’ shipping firm (Waln and Morris), such as letterbooks, invoices, receipts, insurance documents, and ledgers; legal papers, including the manumission of Margaret Lemon (Box 8 folder 3); business correspondence; and estate documents. Series 3, Elliston Perot Morris (1744-1935, undated) consists of the business, legal, real estate, and estate papers of Elliston P. Morris, son of Samuel B. Morris. These include correspondence, bills, receipts, estate administration papers, a few miscellaneous financial papers, account books, ledgers, and extensive real estate records of the family’s lands, including maps, deeds, briefs of title, leases, etc. The series also contains some account books, financial documents, and estate papers of Beulah Sansom Morris Rhoads, daughter of Samuel B. Morris. Likewise, there are a few estate and financial documents of Hannah A. Morris Buckley, daughter of Luke W. Morris. Series 4, Marriott Canby Morris (1881-1930, undated) consists only of a handful of letterpress books and two account books, one of which is for household accounts. The letter books relate to personal and family property in Philadelphia, Pocono Lake, and Sea Girt, N.J., and various community projects of Germantown, where Morris lived. Series 5, Perot and Lardner families (1723-1895, undated) contains papers concerned with management of the property and estates of John Perot Downing, Perot Lardner, Charles Perot, Edward Perot, John Perot, Elliston Perot, and Mary Perot Lardner. Papers include correspondence, legal documents, accounts, receipts, inventories, and catalogs. The series also includes materials related to the Perot family farm in New York.
