520 |a This collection consists mainly of sheet music and music books from the 19th century, a portion of which were published in Philadelphia. A variety of musical types are represented, including operas, librettos, psalms and hymns, popular and patriotic songs. The arrangements include both instrumental, vocal and music instructions. In addition to the musical scores, this collection also includes programs from the Metropolitan Opera House of Philadelphia, 1908-1927 and the Robin Hood Dell, 1930-1940; scrapbooks and minute book of the Eurydice Chorus, 1897-1918; and an unidentified photo album of portraits; and a 7-volume typed manuscript of "Grand Opera in Philadelphia, 1800-1922" by John Curtis. Unprocessed addition to this collection [2018.092; counted as Volume 182] - Nathaniel S. Jacoby music notebook, 1892. This volume is an early manuscript notebook of a music student named Nathaniel S. Jacoby of Sunnytown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (according to the inside inscription). It contains about 150 hymns, songs, and dances. Lyrics are in English or German, with one song in French, and the music represents a wide variety of styles, from jigs to waltzes. The book also identifies the name of Jacoby's teacher, John Krauth, and his annotations appear throughout the volume.
