It officially closed on August 28, 1865; however, demand from still-returning troops caused the saloon to reopen for several months. Its doors were finally closed on December 1, 1865. Record and scrapbook, 27 May 1861-16 April 1864, of the Union Volunteer Refreshment Saloon and Hospital, with records of troops passing through Philadelphia, hospital admissions, September-December 1862, and hospital deaths.
