This digital record contains one image of one photograph depicting photographer Mary Carnell in costume as Falstaff for the Plastic Club's annual "Rabbit" masquerade ball. The 1908 Rabbit was themed, "An Evening with Shakespeare." The Plastic Club, one of the oldest art organizations for women in the United States, was founded in Philadelphia in 1897. Emily Sartain of the Philadelphia School of Design (later the Moore College of Art) and other female artists created the club to promote women’s artwork and encourage artistic collaboration. The club held exhibitions, offered art classes, and hosted social events such as its annual masquerade party, “the Rabbit.&rdquo |
